Note: In Aug 2008, at the time of this interview, I was relying on the research of a Belgian astronomer who published material stating that the annual galactic alignment of 1998 was special in that the moment of the winter solstice and the moment of the galactic alignment were closest together in that year. In March 2009, I tried confirm this by using the completely free astronomy software, CNebulaX. But my research showed that the convergence of these two events will occur in 2048, not 1998!

But the basic ideas presented in this interview are still valid and still very helpful for people who want to understand all the details of the actual astronomy of 2012. The core of 2012 is what I call the sacred triple rebirth of the sun. The poetic beauty is breathtaking; the actual astronomy is profoundly precise!

The interview starts with me painting a mental picture of what the Maya will see unfold throughout the day of the winter solstice, December 21, 2012. [The timing of this is inaccurately presented in this interview but is corrected in my 2012 essays.] The sun will cross the plane of the galaxy over a 15-hour period from predawn to sunset. This crossing, which is a metaphorical rebirth of the sun in a 26,000 year time frame, embraces two other rebirths of the sun: the moment of the winter solstice and also the moment of the sunrise. This combined event is the sacred triple rebirth of the sun and it only happens like this once every 26,000 years.

Will the earth or the sun be destroyed? No. Will there be a magnet pole reversal? I don’t know about that. Perhaps that is possible based on the current trend, which is a weakening of the field but this is probably not linked to the astronomy of 2012.

Is our calendar 5 years off? The Maya don’t use our calendar and we are just looking at how many days are left in their Long Count calendar. Then we correlate that date with our calendar. According to most researchers, the Maya Long Count calendar does end on December 21, 2012.

Mainstream astronomers acknowledge a special galactic alignment in 1998. Why did the Maya pick 2012? Did they just miss 1998 or were they looking for something slightly different? They were focusing on the sacred triple rebirth of the sun, which happens on the winter solstice in 2012. [This point is more accurately covered in my 2012 essays.]

The Maya 260 day calendar mimics both the astronomy of southern Mexico and the period of human gestation.

What does this all mean? I think that this is focused on the shift from the “me” to the “we,” the shift from competition to cooperation, the shift to kindness towards strangers, the shift towards loving your enemies but not in a way that allows them to harm others.

We all are putting our emotions into the soup of society. Fear and hatred attract corresponding disharmonious outer conditions. Love and peace attract harmonious outer conditions.

An interesting point about the event of 2012 is that you will not be able to see the plane of the galaxy as the sun traveled across it since the sun is so bright. This can be used for a metaphor. The bulge in the center of the galaxy is considered by the Maya to be the pregnant belly that is the source of all things. And yet it is invisible, just like we come from an invisible spiritual source.

Will 2012 bring back the ETs? Do the Maya talk about that? Not to my knowledge. But here is more about the ETs. They had cone heads like the Egyptian ETs. Zecharia Sitchin’s book, The Lost Realms, is completely dedicated to the ET link between Mesoamerica and Egypt and other parts of Africa. Some cone head shaped skulls have been found by anthropologist. They appear to be healthy and not the result of illness, disease or a genetic anomaly.

Thoth was an ET (an Annunaki) in Egypt and was later known to the Aztecs as Quetzalcoatl and as Kukulkan to the Maya. While Thoth was in Egypt, he was known as the god of science, astronomy and calendars. The Maya say that Kukulkan gave them their agricultural skills and their calendars.

How difficult was it to make the Long Count calendar end on the winter solstice of 2012? They had to know the value of the year to within 40 seconds. Pretty impressive. This is evidence but not necessarily proof that naked eye astronomy was not good enough to do this and they perhaps got their knowledge from ETs, just as they said they did.

Five cycles of the Long Count calendar add up to the length of the great year to within a half of one percent and these five cycles are reflected in their artwork and in their mythology. Is this a coincidence? I don’t think so.

A caller traces the history of the Maya all the way back to Atlantis 14,000 years ago.

Conclusion:

The triple rebirth of the sun is the real special event of 2012! The poetic beauty is breathtaking; the actual astronomy is profoundly precise!
