Feet2fire 2012 Interview - Part 1 - 24 minutes

Feet2fire Interview - March 2011

On March 20, 2011, James Arthur Jancik interviewed me for his show, Feet2fire. The complete interview is 90 minutes and it is divided into four parts. There are no transcripts available but the interview is based on my book, Mystical 2012. You can read the entire book online for free or order it at Amazon.com. Click here for more information.

In part 1, James and I cover the astronomy that unfolds in the sky over the Maya on the precise day of the winter solstice of 2012. The fastest and easiest way to learn this is with my essay, Why the Maya Picked 2012 and my YouTube video of the same title.

While I think it is completely unnecessary and too complicated to go into on the radio, the “galactic alignment” of John Major Jenkins is nevertheless often discussed as the key astronomical event of 2012. James and I spent a fair amount of time talking about what it is and why I don’t think that it is the astronomical reason that the Maya picked the exact day of the winter solstice of 2012. To understand the galactic alignment better, you can read either of the following essays.

The Actual Astronomy of 2012 in a Nutshell (13 pages)

It is my opinion that the astronomy of 2012 will not cause anything unusual to happen to us, either good or bad, or physical or spiritual. The Maya used the astronomy of 2012 as the foundation of their timeless metaphor of transformation and rebirth. James and I talked more about this in the subsequent parts.

Important Note: Again, understanding the galactic alignment is completely unimportant. Yet in this regard, it seems as if James was confusing the ecliptic and the galactic midplane and I should have picked up on that and corrected it immediately but with live radio, things like that can be missed. These terms are explained best by the pictures in my previously mentioned essays. The ecliptic is the plane of the earth-sun orbit and since we are always in that plane, we always see it on its edge. Therefore astronomers draw it as a line in the sky. It is the path of the sun, as seen from earth. The galactic midplane is also always seen on its edge and again astronomers show it as a line in the sky on their star charts. That line is called the galactic equator. These two lines - the galactic equator and the ecliptic - intersect at 60 degrees near the center region of the galaxy. This angle always remains the same and the intersection point never changes. It does not intersect at the center of the galaxy; it intersects about 6.5 degrees up the galactic equator from the galactic center. The sun goes through this section of the sky once a year and in the years around 2012; it goes through there on the same day as the winter solstice. The galactic alignment requires a discussion of the galactic equator but the astronomy that I present does not need that concept. What I present is much simpler and it is concerned with what people can see without a telescope. (And you can’t even see the galactic equator with a telescope! It is a precisely defined imaginary reference line in the sky.)
